As pumpkin spice season draws near, Lakewood Brewing Co. is gearing up for its annual Punktoberfest, a celebration of all things beer, pretzels, and steins! This year’s festivities will include the debut of their most popular seasonal lager, Punkel, this time in an all-new can. On September 2nd, the North Texas brewery, taproom, and beergarden will offer a dynamic lineup of activities including an official steinholding competition, hammer stump (ask a northerner), beer poking, live polka-ified rock covers with The Dogensteins, and more!
Partygoers will have the chance to witness the ultimate display of strength and endurance in the half-liter steinholding qualifying tournament. These iconic steins, weigh an impressive five pounds (with the stein itself contributing three pounds). Lakewood Brewing Co. proudly serves as one of the exclusive USSA Steinholding State Championship tournament qualifying venues in DFW. The championship finals are scheduled for Saturday, October 21st at Altstadt. Here, champions from both the men's and women's categories will compete for the prestigious title and a prize of $500.
Polka entertainment will be provided by The Dogensteins, a self-proclaimed rock band with an accordion twist. Attendees can enjoy a variety of eats including Lakewood’s Bavarian pretzel and brats from Smoke 'n Bone. Admission is free with an optional paid Punktoberfest package that includes a commemorative Punkel stein, two stein fills, and a Bavarian pretzel for $25.
Punkel was one of the first local pumpkin-inspired beers and is Lakewood’s longest and most popular seasonal. Its long-lasting popularity is due in part to how easy drinking it is, since it contains no pumpkin, just pumpkin pie spices. Punktoberfest offers a special chance to enjoy Punkel and other limited-edition Lakewood beers, either at the event or for a take-home experience.
