Families looking to celebrate Halloween in a safe, fun environment can bring little princesses, storm troopers, minions and more to Trunk or Treat at First United Methodist Church Richardson on Saturday, October 24 from 5:00 – 7:00 pm. This annual event is held in the northwest parking lots of the church, which is located on the west side of Central Expressway, just south of Arapaho Rd.

Each year, hundreds of children and their families come out to celebrate Halloween with carnival games, bounce houses, music and all of the candy they can carry.

“Trunk or Treat has quickly turned into one of the highlights of the year for our kids,” said Kristen Ceaser, Director of Community Connections at FUMCR. “It’s exciting for children and their families to come together for a fun night with lots of laughs and treats along the way!”

Church members plan year-round to decorate their trunks and themselves in unique holiday “themes.” Spooky trunks with ghosts and cobwebs, funny trunks with non-traditional Halloween décor and sparkly trunks with princesses handing out candy fill the parking lot. The Great Pumpkin trunk is a big hit with the kids each year.

New this year, some trunks will have teal colored pumpkins as part of “The Teal Pumpkin Project” to show they offer non-food treat options for those trunk-or-treaters with food allergies. The Teal Pumpkin Project was launched as a national campaign by Food Allergy Research & Education (FARE) in 2014, to raise awareness of food allergies and promotes inclusion of all trick-or-treaters throughout the Halloween season.

Cheryl Bishop, Director of Children’s Ministries at FUMCR says, “Seeing children delighting in the fun of a fall festival, surrounded by different generations who welcome people from the community, brings a sense of overwhelming joy.” 

This event is open to the community at no cost.
