Richardson's Take Me Home Pet Rescue seeks home for Shepherd/ Beagle Mix

Fitzroy is a two -year old, 35 lb Shepard/ Beagle mix.  He's a fun, cuddly, playful boy who has been through a lot in his short life.  Before Take Me Home Pet  Rescue, located at 561  W. Campbell Rd in Richardson, rescued him, he had been attacked by a large animal causing 40 puncture wounds. He languished in a rural shelter, frightened, untreated and in pain, and traumatized. According to  TMHPR Executive Director Elise Bissel, who lives in Richardson's  Prairie Creek area, TMHPR pulled him and got him the treatment he needed, and now, after a year of recuperation and training, he is ready for a forever home. "He will be a great addition to some lucky family," she said.

The wounds left a scar on his back, so he usually wears a shirt outside, to prevent sunburn to his skin. His foster mom has acquired a collection of shirts for him, and his wardrobe will be included in an adoption.

The trauma in his puppyhood has caused Fitzroy to suffer from severe anxiety at times.  He loves to play tug of war, fetch, treats, the dog park, and snuggling by your side, but new experiences often scare him at first. He will thrive in a calm and patient environment, where someone realizes that he needs time to adjust to new situations.  Even though he loves his two - legged foster brothers, he's best suited in a home with older kids, and as an only dog or other dogs his size. He likes women best, and has some fear of men, but, with time, he has learned to trust the boys in his foster home.

He is fully potty trained and crate trained and behaves wonderfully in a house.  Fitzroy is a volunteer favorite because once he gets past his anxiety, he will be your best friend and lovebug!  He recently visited several Richardson stores, looking for more shirts, of  course, and checking out possible forever families. He didn't find the perfect fit yet, so if you would be interested in meeting Fitzroy,  fill out an adoption application at Take Me Home Pet Rescue, and a visit can be arranged.
