Richardson High School’s Eagle Repertory Theatre is excited to present one of Shakespeare’s darkest works, a PG-13 play whose very name is considered cursed, Macbeth. However, this will not be your run-of-the-mill, “double double toil and trouble,” version, but a new imagining that supports a view of evolving gender roles in our society. We join Lady Macbeth, a female warrior among warriors, who has been an exemplary soldier in service to her Queen, Duncan. When Lady Macbeth and her spear mate, Lady Banquo, receive an otherworldly prophecy predicting their rise to the status of Queens one day, Lady Macbeth decides to take matters in her own hands. Spurred by her husband, Lady Macbeth plots the murder of Queen Duncan in order to usurp the throne. The downfall of the titular character is well-known, but following it moment-by-moment, scene-by-scene, is a study in the flawed humanity that may very well lie in all our hearts. We ask, “What would you do to rule the world, and further, what would you do to keep it?”
