Jess Harben Elementary Students Compete in Regional Enrichment Math Competition

The search for DFW’s best young mathematicians continues

Samir Mukshe, Edwin Sosa, Ezra Ismajlaj and Grady Hendrix from Jess Harben Elementary in the Richardson ISD competed in the regional championship round of the 3rd annual Explore Horizons Young Mathematicians’ Award.

A total of 16 schools representing Keller ISD, Birdville ISD, Richardson ISD, Hurst Euless Bedford ISD as well as area private schools competed last week, with five teams progressing to the finals.

Explore Horizons, a tutoring & enrichment center with locations throughout North Texas, wants to challenge students to continue to learn outside of the classroom by using valuable problem solving skills and applying them to unique “real world” situations. Utilizing these key skills gives children and schools an opportunity to stretch talented young mathematicians beyond the classroom to prepare for futures in math, science, engineering and more.

“Our goal is to show children how fun, applicable, collaborative and interesting math can be,” said Belinda Southgate, Head of U.S. Marketing for Explore Horizons. “At Explore Horizons, we love helping gifted and talented young students learn vital problem solving skills to use in high school, college and even future careers in STEM fields.”
