2017 JJ Pearce Mustangs Varsity Team Photo Credit: Cassie Starnes

 

The Texas U.I.L. 9-6A regular season ended Friday, however the J.J. Pearce Mustangs baseball team secured their ticket to the playoffs over a week in advance of the end of the season. The team ended district play with a 12-2 record, and an overall record of 20-9-1. Signature wins included beating the 2016 State Champion: Jesuit Rangers at Jesuit, and beating the Coppell Cowboys.

The Mustangs swept the other RISD schools and DISD schools, winning both games against each of the following schools: Richardson High School, Lake Highlands High School, Berkner High School, W.T.White High School, and Skyline High School. The Mustangs finished just one game behind District Champion, Coppell.

Members of the 2017 J.J. Pearce Varsity team are: Isaac Ableman, Tyler Arrington (co-captain), Danny Cruz, Nick Davis, Taylor Davis, Wyatt Erickson, Jackson Greaney, Joel Herman, Logan Hunt, Haden Johnson, Pierce Johnson, Will Jones, Ben Kahlich, Hunter McCord, Jay Mendenhall(co-captain), Clayton Price, Gray, Rodgers(co-captain), Kenny Rosenberg, Rory Wheat, and Ben Willis.    The Mustangs’ head coach is Trent Starnes and Assistant Coach is Brock Rumfield.

The Mustangs Junior Varsity team finished strong, with an overall record 16-9-2 and 10-3 in the district.  The Junior Varsity team was coached by Jake Zerfas.

Members of the 2017 J.J. Pearce Junior Varsity team are: Jackson Black, Blake Breedlove, Zackary Brickert, Nick Burlbaw, Gavin Gold, Mason Haynes, Drew Landry, Bradley Livingstone, Jackson Lutton, Sam Ray, Bo Rodgers, Jordan Rozenblum, Joris Schuller, Sutton Stokes, Preston Vinzant, Nick Watkins, Jackson Weiss, Brandon Winger, and Logan Winger.

The Mustangs will begin their journey to the championship by facing the Patriots of Lakeview Centennial of Garland.  The teams will play a “Best of three” game series, starting this Friday at  7:00pm, at Lakeview Centennial High School.  Play will resume at Mustang Ballpark on Saturday at 3:00pm, for “Game Two” of the three game series. If a third game is required, it will begin thirty minutes after “Game Two” ends, at J.J. Pearce.
