City of Richardson Schedules Two Mosquito Sprayings This Week

The City of Richardson will be spraying parts of the city twice this week in response to a positive mosquito pool result and a positive report of a resident infected with West Nile. The spraying will help to lower mosquito populations and thus help slow the spread of West Nile.

The first area to be sprayed is from Melrose Drive south to West Belt Line Road and from West Shore Drive east to U.S. 75 (Central Expressway). This spraying will occur on Monday, July 23 from 10:00 p.m. to 3:00 a.m.

The second area to be sprayed is from West Campbell Road south to West Arapaho Road and from North Coit Road east to West Shore Drive. This spraying will happen on Wednesday, July 25 from 10:00 p.m. to 3:00 a.m.

The city sprays from 10:00 p.m. to 3:00 a.m. to limit exposure to people who may wish to avoid contact with the pesticide. The city utilizes an ultra-low volume fogger that disperses pesticide at a rate of six ounces per minute. This is effective at impacting mosquito populations while also being sensitive to the environment.

If wind speeds are greater than 10 miles per hour, the city Health Department staff may postpone spraying until the weather conditions are more favorable.
