The J.J. Pearce Baseball program closed the books on a highly successful season, on Thursday, May 21st.

The Mustangs gathered to celebrate their season at the annual baseball banquet.

The 2015 Varsity team made their second appearance in two years, in the UIL State of Texas baseball championship playoffs.   The Mustangs went 9-5 in District 10-6A play, finishing in a solid third place, to earn the berth.  Under the direction of Head Coach Trent Starnes,  and assisted by Coach Brock Rumfield and Coach Colby Goodman, The Mustangs not only posted six players to the 10-6A All-District first team,  but have five players progressing forward to play at the collegiate level.

Mustangs awarded First Team, All-District status are:  Kyle Taylor, (Sr.), Pitcher, Malik Jones, (Sr.), Outfield, Austin King, (Sr.), Outfield, Zach Scaff, (Sr.),Designated Hitter, and Garrett Erickson,(Sr.),Utility player. Also awarded honors is sophomore, Gray Rodgers, named Underclassman of the Year.

Graduating seniors who have committed to play at the next level are: Cole Buonasera, University of Texas at Dallas, Garrett Erickson, Midland College, Malik Jones, Weatherford College, Davis Rodgers, Weatherford College, and Kyle Taylor, Hill Junior College.

Team awards were also given to the players.  Austin King and Miles Lewis were the recipients of the “Most Improved” award.   “Big Stick” award was presented to Zach Scaff.  The “Golden Glove” award was given to Malik Jones.  Kyle Taylor was awarded the “Golden Arm” award, and was also was named the Most Valuable Player for the Varsity team.   The final award presented was the prestigious “Fighting Mustang” award, presented to Davis Rodgers.

The expectations bar has been set high by this Varsity team for the 2016 baseball program.  The Mustangs fielded a talent loaded, thirty player Junior Varsity roster this year, splitting between two schedules of tournaments, non-district, and district games.  The Junior Varsity program finished with only one district game loss. 

Team awards were also presented to the Junior Varsity team members.  Jackson Greaney (Sophomore), was the recipient of the “Most Improved” award.    The “Offense” award was given to Blake Jones (Jr.).  “Defense” award was presented to Kenny Rosenberg (Sophomore).  Clayton Price,(Freshman), was awarded the “Pitcher” award, and Nick Davis,(Freshman), was named Most Valuable Player.

The J.J. Pearce Baseball program will host several baseball camps for area youth in June.  Split into age levels, two sets of camps will be offered, including “All Around” baseball camps, hitting camps, and pitching camps.   Please go to www.pearcebaseball.com, for more information on these camps.
