The 2017 9-6A high school baseball season is about to begin, and the J.J. Pearce Mustangs are looking forward to making a run at postseason play this year. The newly formatted district includes not only the incredibly talented RISD high school rivals and DISD’s Skyline and W.T. White, but formidable, historically strong baseball schools- Coppell and Dallas Jesuit.

With ten returning starters from the 2016 season, Pearce has faced a daunting pre-district warm up, with state ranked opponents such as Keller, Fossil Ridge, and the Round Rock high schools.

Players returning for their senior year are: Tyler Arrington, Danny Cruz, Jackson Greaney, Joel Herman, Haden Johnson, Pierce Johnson, Will Jones, Hunter McCord, Jay Mendenhall, Gray Rodgers, and Kenny Rosenberg.

Returning players who received All-District honors from 2016 are:  Gray Rodgers, Tyler Arrington, Jay Mendenhall, Nick Davis, and Clayton Price.

Mustangs on the Varsity roster are:  Isaac Ableman, Tyler Arrington, Danny Cruz, Nick Davis, Taylor Davis, Wyatt Erickson, Jackson Greaney, Joel Herman, Logan Hunt, Haden Johnson, Pierce Johnson, Will Jones, Ben Kahlich, Hunter McCord, Jay Mendenhall, Clayton Price, Gray Rodgers, Kenny Rosenberg, Rory Wheat, and Ben Willis.

In addition to the Varsity roster, we have the 2017 Junior Varsity including:  Jackson Black, Blake Breedlove, Zackary Brickert, Nick Burlbaw, Gavin Gold, Mason Haynes, Drew Landry, Bradley Livingstone, Jackson Lutton, Sam Ray, Bo Rodgers, Jordan Rozenblum, Joris Schuller, Sutton Stokes, Preston Vinzant, Nick Watkins, Jackson Weiss, Brandon Winger, and Logan Winger.

The 2017 JJ Pearce Mustang Baseball Program is led by Head Coach Trent Starnes, and he is assisted by coaches Brock Rumfield and Jake Zerfas.

The season home opener is this Tuesday, March 14th, vs the Richardson Eagles. Junior Varsity will take the field at 5:00pm, followed by Varsity at 7:30pm.  Admission is free, and baseball boosters will be grilling burgers, hot links, and serving other concession stand favorites.

This year, the Mustang baseball program is excited to launch their J.J. Pearce Home Run Heroes program. This program allows area youth from kindergarten through sixth grade, with a passion for baseball, to have a little taste of the excitement of high school baseball.  The heroes not only will get a taste of the spotlight at Mustang Ballpark, but are matched with a Varsity team buddy. Their buddy will share their excitement for the game and encourage doing well in school.
