DFW-Area Hopekeepers was started to support people and families dealing with chronic illness or pain. Each month, we bring Christ-centered programs that will encourage and inspire, including practical coping strategies and wellness ideas. Our June meeting will be an expanded discussion about discovering, building, and nurturing strength to help get through difficult days.
PHYSICAL STRENGTH: Sarah Riehm demonstrates basic techniques for strength training for people facing health challenges. According to extensive research done by Dr. Miriam Nelson with aging populations, strength training can help anyone — at any level of fitness or age — overcome pain and mobility problems. Riehm will give a hands-on demonstration of a simple strength training routine you can try in class and then take a handout home. This won't be extremely rigorous, but do wear clothing you can move in. Riehm is a Certified Personal Trainer plus she is also certified in Older Adult Fitness from Dallas's Cooper Institute.
EMOTIONAL STRENGTH: Carrol Green will then lead an open discussion to share tips and techniques to build emotional strength. For people dealing with health and pain issues, sometimes it feels like you just have to tie a knot at the end of your rope and hang on! Over the years, we all develop unique and valuable coping skills--so come prepared to offer your own insight and encouragement.
SPIRITUAL STRENGTH: Our Spiritual Director, Diana Beaudry, ends our meeting with expanded prayer time and suggestions about how to lean into God to find strength.
