Don’t trash it!  Open your garage, closet, attic (wherever you hide junk), pull out all of your old computers, cell phones, television sets, and other electronic items that are just taking up space, and bring them to Snappy Salads. Snappy Salads, the first eco-friendly salad restaurant in Dallas, Texas, will recycle your electronic items (anything with an on/off switch) on Saturday, October 19, 2013. Recycling will take place at the following five locations at these times:

10 a.m. – 1 p.m.

  • 5915 Forest Lane, Dallas, TX, 75230
  • 5930 W. Park Blvd., Plano, TX, 75093
  • 2175 E. Southlake Blvd., Southlake, TX 76092

2 p.m. – 5 p.m.

  • 320 W. Campbell Road, Richardson, TX, 75080
  • 5941 Greenville Ave., Dallas, TX, 75206

Specific items that can be recycled include: computers, televisions, monitors, laptops, cell phones, VCRs, stereos, copiers, printers, video games, fax machines, calculators, as well as small appliances and batteries. Anything that has an on/off switch will be accepted.

The EPA estimates that the U.S. discards 400 million pieces of e-waste each year. Electronic waste contains an array of toxic materials, including lead, mercury, and brominated flame-retardants. The U.S. EPA estimates that over 80% of our e-waste is trashed in American landfills and incinerators, where it can contaminate our air, water and land.

“I am personally looking forward to this day because I have quite a few items that I’ll be able to get out of my garage and into the hands of someone who will properly recycle the components.  It makes me feel better because I know the toxins from the electronic components won’t go into our landfills.” said Chris Dahlander, Founder and CEO of Snappy Salads.

Snappy Salads is relying on the expertise of Recycle Revolution, a local Dallas company, to coordinate the recycling of the collected items and to ensure that all items are sent to facilities here in the United States.  www.recyclerevolutiondallas.com. The team will be on site to help transfer the items from your vehicle to the collection truck.  All items will be recycled according to the standards of e-stewards (http://e-stewards.org/certification-overview/program-details).
