Anyone traveling along Interstate 635 between U.S. 75 and I-35E these days knows the route can be quite slow, due to road construction. And beginning this week, the construction in accordance with the LBJ Express Project is going to affect the Dallas North Tollway under I-635, too.

The undertaking will involve a traffic lane shift on the Tollway so that workers can install new center columns, to be the foundation for a future I-635 bridge. The North Texas Tollway Authority (NTTA) and the LBJ Express project are estimating that the Dallas North Tollway work will directly impact drivers for two to three months.

In order for LBJ Express workers to rebuild the I-635 bridge over the Dallas North Tollway as well as some surrounding connecting ramps, there will be some scheduled Tollway lane closures; however, these will mostly occur during off-peak hours.

Once complete, part of LBJ will cross over the Dallas North Tollway (this should be done within two years, though there isn't yet a rigid timeline for this portion of the development). According to the LBJ Express webpage, the whole project should wrap up by the end of 2015. The final result will be six new managed toll lanes, including high occupancy vehicle (HOV) lanes, and improvements on the existing roads along the seventeen-mile freeway stretch.
