If you find yourself constantly watching reruns of Cops or you can't miss an episode of Southland, you might want to consider applying to the Richardson Police Department's Citizen Police Academy (CPA).
The 16-week academy gives participants a working knowledge of the police department and strengthens the partnership between the police and the community. CPA classes are interactive; students will get the chance to test their skills on the department's driving course, participate in a mock SWAT raid, and fire police weapons.
The academy is free, but you must apply. Applications are accepted from October 1 to December 31. You must be 21-years old to participate. Classes begin in February and are from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. each week.
