Football Review: Richardson Schools Go Winless in Week 3

It was a bad week for Richardson football, as all three area schools were involved in lopsided losses to some of the top teams in the area. Fortunately, week three marks the end of non-district play for all three schools as well.

Richardson High School

With a new quarterback under center and facing Allen High School, one of the top football teams in the state of Texas, Richardson High School came up well short of an upset bid, 52-17. New quarterback Tristian Cockrell completed only three of his 15 passing attempts for 17 yards and one interception. The Richardson running game put up a good fight, amassing 180 yards on 41 total carries and the team lone offensive touchdown.

Richardson Berkner High School

Richardson Berkner faced an almost equally difficult task in playing host to Plano East Senior High School. Berkner quarterback Yedidiah Louis and running back Calvin Jones managed to give Berkner the lead at the end of the first quarterback, but Plano East quickly snuffed out any hopes the Rams had of an upset with 28 unanswered points in the second. The Panthers never let up and won the game, 62-28. Jones had 135 yards and two touchdowns on 20 carries while Louis finished with 80 yards and one touchdown on eight carries.

Richardson Pearce High School

Richardson Pearce engaged Frisco Wakeland High School in a shootout at home but came up short in a 52-34 loss. Wakeland put Pearce in a hole early, and the Mustangs mounted their comeback too late in the game to have a chance. Quarterback Craig Lair had a fine showing with 11-of-18 passing for 162 yards, two touchdowns and an interception but was no match for Wakeland quarterback Jackson Lamb, who was 36-of-49 for 460 yards and three touchdowns.
