Who says you've got to travel to the Louvre in Paris or to MoMA in New York City to see incredible works of art? If you enjoy the idea of getting lost in an art museum—but you just can't swing the pricey tickets—then be sure to attend the Cottonwood Art Festival this weekend in Richardson.

With free admission, this event is the perfect way to get your art fix—and also a great and inexpensive way to introduce your children to the art world. From digital photography to ceramics to jewelry, this outdoor festival features many different art mediums. To enhance your experience, at least eight different musical groups and bands will perform throughout the event as well.

Some consider food a work of art too, so you won't want to miss the many culinary pleasures that await you at the festival. Vendors like the Big Shucks Oyster Bar, Marble Slab Creamery, and Conway's Corndogs will be dishing up their tasty treats for those that want to indulge. You can also grab an adult beverage in the courtyard.

If you've got the kids in tow, you'll definitely want to check out the ArtStop Children's Area. Your mini Monets will have a chance to explore their artistic side when creating a sculpture hat from scrap, helping to design an enormous collage, and working with a real potter's wheel.

All the fun kicks off on Saturday, October 6 from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. (live music until 8 p.m.) and continues on Sunday, October 7 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. The festival is held at Cottonwood Park in Richardson.
