City Councilman Amir Omar, a candidate for Mayor of Richardson who has a long track record working with youth, announced today the “Amir Omar for Mayor Youth Video Contest.”
Participants will create a 30 to 90 second YouTube commercial for the Omar for Richardson campaign using film, graphics, animation or any combination of those visual tools. The young filmmakers can tap into the About Amir link on the campaign website here and employ images from the candidate’s Facebook page or videos from his YouTube channel.
“Whether encouraging young people to make a difference by giving back through volunteerism and community service or to find their passion and pursue it, the moments I have engaged with our youth have been the most memorable of my time in public service,’’ said Omar, a councilman who is seeking to be the city’s first directly elected Mayor in over 50 years.
A new winner of the video contest will be selected every two weeks leading up to the election in May. The Omar campaign will sponsor each of the winning filmmakers to one of the six scheduled Movie Institute workshops in 2013. The overall winner will gain sponsored access to their week long Kamp Hollywood. The Movie Institute is a local nonprofit organization that uses filmmaking to mentor and train young people to lead more successful lives.
Contestants, who should be 21 or younger, will submit their entries via private YouTube link and by emailing that link to ToddJones@AmirOmar.com. Additional information can be found on the Omar for Richardson website.
The first winner of the “Amir Omar for Mayor Youth Video Contest” will be announced Jan. 7. The deadline for the first round of entries is Jan. 4. All the non-winning entries move on to the next rounds.
