The JJP Mighty Mustang band recently participated in both 9th grade All Region and High School All Region contests. Over 1,900 students from 24 high schools auditioned in the solo contests combined.
The audition is a “blind” audition, meaning that the judges are behind a screen and cannot see the students. Each student is ranked by the judges, and then the scores are tabulated using Olympic-style judging: the tabulation software automatically throws out the high and low scores (ranks). The student with the lowest number of rank points comes in first.
Ninth grade All Region consisted of one day of auditions, while High School All Region consisted of two days. On the second day of auditions, students are again ranked, and placed in bands according to place. The highest placing students are also selected to move onto the Area audition, and will compete for spots in the Texas All State band.
All of the JJP bands will perform in an upcoming winter concert on December 12 at 7pm, in the JJ Pearce high school auditorium. The concert is free and the community is invited to attend.
