The Texas U.I.L. 9-6A regular season has ended, however the J.J. Pearce Mustangs baseball team secured their ticket to the playoffs and begins play this week. The team ended district play with a 9-5 record, and an overall record of 17-13-3.
The Mustangs swept the other RISD schools and went three for four against the DISD schools, winning both games against each of the following schools: Richardson High School, Lake Highlands High School, Berkner High School, Skyline High School, and splitting the series with W.T. White. The Mustangs finished in third place.
Members of the 2018 J.J. Pearce Varsity team are: Isaac Ableman, Bo Brewer, Nick Burlbaw, Nick Davis(Co-Captain), Taylor Davis, Wyatt Erickson, Bo Garner, Gavin Gold, Logan Hunt (Co-Captain), Clayton Price (Co-Captain), Sam Ray, Bo Rodgers, Jordan Rozenblum, John Mark Spence, Preston Vinzant, Nick Watkins, Rory Wheat, Ben Willis, and Logan Winger.
The Mustangs’s head coach is Trent Starnes and assistant coach is Brock Rumfield.
The Mustangs Junior Varsity team finished strong with an overall record of 19-6-1 and 9-4 in the district. The Junior Varsity team was coached by Justin Roland and assisted by Justin Whiteside.

Pearce Junior Varsity team are: Jet Arrington, Jackson Black, Zack Brickert, Andrew Dever, Cade Gilliam, Nick Greaney, Hunter Greenwell, Mason Haynes, Trent Hodgkinson, Ben Kesler, Tate Keyser, Drew Landry, Bradley Livingstone, Jackson Lutton, Wes McCord, Brett Rifkin, Joris Schuller, Dillon Shaner, Sutton Stokes, Thomas Switzer, Burke Wahlberg, Jackson Weiss, and Brandon Winger.
Team managers are Maddox Sanders and Dawson Runyon.
The Mustangs begin their journey to the championship by facing the Patriots of Lakeview Centennial of Garland. The teams will play a “best of three” game series, starting this Thursday at 7:00pm, at J.J. Pearce’s Mustang Ballpark. Play will resume at Lakeview Centennial on Friday at 7:00pm, for “game two” of the three-game series. If a third game is necessary, it will take place on Saturday and will be played at Jesuit Prep, the neutral site.
