Richardson's Cottonwood Art Festival invites everyone to escape at the May 4-5, 2013, spring festival -- ESCAPE: The Dallas Journey Tribute Band, that is. The band will headline the bi-annual arts festival on Saturday, May 4, from 5:30 to 7 p.m.

In addition to the fine art, music has long been part of Cottonwood's appeal. ESCAPE, composed of veteran musicians, performs a popular musical tribute to the arena rock supergroup Journey (www.escaperocks.com). The Dallas-based band has been together since 2006 and has performed at packed venues throughout Dallas/Fort Worth and across Texas. ESCAPE's goal is get everyone off their chairs to sing along and dance to the positive message of Journey's music.

Kim Polen of HarderBeat Magazine writes, "Dallas area Journey tribute band ESCAPE is a treat to see and hear...ESCAPE is a must see for all Journey fans," and dfw.com declares, "Take a Journey back in time with the hardest-working tribute band in town."

The Cottonwood Art Festival takes place Saturday, May 4, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., and Sunday, May 5, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., at Cottonwood Park, located at 1321 W. Belt Line Rd., one block east of Coit Road in Richardson, Texas. Parking and admission are free. Artists' works are available for purchase, as are food and beverages.

Fort Worth-born Michelle Mardis, who now makes her home in Florida, has been named featured artist for the spring festival. Her bold and unusual use of color creates an impact.

Children have their own escape — to ArtStop, Cottonwood's hands-on, interactive children's area offering arts, crafts and activities for children of all ages. Although admission to the festival is free, some ArtStop activities require a small fee.

In addition to ESCAPE, other local bands will perform during the day on Saturday and Sunday. Listen to the music while strolling and appreciating a wide variety of artwork. Or escape to the courtyard, enjoy the shade by the lake, sit back and be entertained.
