On  November 14, Berkner Theatre will host a Pancake Breakfast at Applebee’s Restaurant in Richardson to raise funds for a scholarship established in the name of First Lieutenant Ryan T. Sanders, a 1997 Berkner High School Graduate killed in the line of duty. Ryan also attended Jess Harbin Elementary and Liberty Junior High before pursuing both a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree from Texas A&M University. Ryan had amazing communications with many organizations at Berkner and the Theatre Department was proud to call him one of our own. Ryan’s participation on the Berkner stage as an actor, class member, and comedy troupe performer, is a legacy we are proud to have been a part of during Ryan’s high school years. Ryan was a guest speaker at Berkner’s Student Recognition Breakfast in December 2005, just days before he was deployed to Iraq. His words as well as his presence were inspiring and will live long in the memories of those who were present that morning. He was killed by a roadside bomb in Iraq serving our country and we wish to continue to honor his memory through the funding of this scholarship.

Ryan’s mother, Kay, has held several positions in RISD, both at Berkner and with several administrations. His brother Jeff works in Bond Management for the RISD district.

Scholarships are rewarded annually, in the name of Ryan Sanders, to deserving theatre students who have demonstrated their commitment to the theatre during their high school career. If you would like to contribute to the scholarship fund, please send your contributions to Berkner High School in care of Cesu McGee. Please make checks payable to the Ryan T. Sanders Scholarship Fund.

Berkner Theatre students will be serving pancakes from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Applebee’s Restaurant, 125 N. Plano Rd. (just north of Beltline Rd.) The cost for the breakfast is $8.

Thank you for your continued support!
