The MWE invites you to travel back in time to the late 19th and early 20th centuries to visit the cabarets and speakeasies of Belle Epoque and Art Nouveau Paris, post-war Berlin and Prohibition-Era New York City. “Bienvenue aü Chat Noir” will take listeners to parlors frequented by important artists, literary figures and, of course, composers. The program will feature a set of cabaret songs by Alec Wilder, William Bolcom, and Kurt Weill, with Meadows faculty member Melissa Murray as soloist. Additional repertoire includes Joshua Hobb’s Blind Tiger and Kurt Weill’s Suite from his masterpieceThe Threepenny Opera. The evening will conclude with George Gershwin’sAn American in Paris.
