Expanded show to feature more than 500 cars and will benefit the Network Food Pantry of Richardson

Organizers took a leap of faith 10 years ago when they decided to hold a car show in the parking lot of the Heights Church in Richardson. Despite its early April date, the show has been blessed with beautiful weather for the past nine years in a row. Organizers are convinced it’s due to divine intervention. How else would you explain not a single rain out in nearly a decade for a spring outdoor event?

“We started the car show to attract guys with similar interests,” said show organizer Brian Ratcliff. “In the process, we wanted to demonstrate love for our neighbors by providing for the less fortunate. Over the past nine years our show has displayed 2,423 cars and donated $47,720 and 6,405 pounds of food to local food pantries. It has also become a family-friendly festival with live music, food vendors and giant Hot Wheels tracks for the kids.”

The 10th Annual Heights Car Show, sponsored by Crest Cadillac & Infiniti of Plano, will be held 11 a.m. - 4 p.m. Saturday April 8 at The Heights Church in Richardson. A record setting 425 cars were in attendance last year and the event raised more than $8,000 cash and collected more than 1,200 pounds of food for the Network Food Pantry of Richardson. This year the display area has been expanded to hold up to 500 cars.

“We showcase some of the widest range of vehicles in one place of any show in DFW,” continued Ratcliff. “Last year, we had everything from Model A’s and rare muscle cars to military vehicles and Ferraris, Porsches, McLarens and even a Bentley and a Rolls-Royce. There were several Lamborghini Aventadors (valued at  $300,000+ each) as well as Dennis Collins’ world-record Gas Monkey Ferrari. But we also have a high school senior who showed his ’71 Mustang Fastback daily driver three years in a row. It’s a great show for car buffs but we also make it fun for the whole family.”

A total of 46 large trophies in 22 classes will be awarded, including Pre-50’s, 50’s, 60’s, 70’s, 80’s, 90’s & Newer, Camaro, Mustang, Open, Corvette 1953 – 1982, Corvette 1984 & Newer, Exotic, Convertible, Pre-70’s Import, 70’s & Newer Import, Muscle Car Pre-80s, Muscle car 80s & newer, Truck Pre-70’s, Truck 70’s & Newer, Military, Mopar, Street Rod plus Best of Show, Longest Distance, Car Club Participation and a Sponsor’s Choice. Show car registration is $20 per car entry or 20 canned food items. Spectators are free. All proceeds will again benefit the Network Food Bank of Richardson.

“We’re determined to make the 10th anniversary show the best yet,” concluded Ratcliff. “The trophies will be over the top. We’re planning some great giveaways as well. Ken Savage and the Best Kept Secret Band will be playing rock & roll classic hits with a great horn section. Everything will be bigger and better. Weather permitting, of course.”
