The start of the 2012 high school football season may have started last week, but all three Richardson high schools will have to wait another week to attempt to claim their first victory of the year. Richardson Pearce played first with a game on Thursday, August 30 while Richardson Berkner and Richardson both played their games on Friday, August 31.

Richardson High School

The Richardson High School football team was nearly unstoppable on the ground. Unfortunately, Irving MacArthur was even more impressive with a dominating air and ground game that the Eagles were unable to even slow down. The end result was a shoot out that slowly leaned towards Irving MacArthur as the game wore on. In the end, Richardson was unable to make up the deficit and fell in their season opener, 55-26.

The Eagles gained 324 yards on the ground with five different players but most of the workload was carried by Kendrick Igbinoba and Parker Smith. Igbinoba had only nine carries but rushed for 157 yards. Smith carried the ball 16 times and gained 86 yards and scored two touchdowns.

Their next game will be against Frisco Wakeland at FC Dallas Stadium on Friday, September 7 with kick-off at 7:30 p.m.

Richardson Berkner High School

Everything was going well for Richardson Berkner in the first quarter: the Rams had a 14-point lead and South Garland High School was going nowhere. Then, Berkner allowed South Garland to score a touchdown with no time remaining in the first quarter and everything went down hill from there. The Rams didn't score again while South Garland scored three touchdowns in the second half to seal their victory, 28-14.

Quarterback Yedidiah Louis did most of the heavy lifting for Berkner. He completed six of 17 passing attempts for 76 yards and a touchdown. He also carried the ball 17 times for 48 yards. Running back K'Lon Green had only six carries for 24 yards.

Their next game will be against North Garland at Williams Stadium on Thursday, September 6 with kick-off at 7:00 p.m.

Richardson Pearce High School

The Richardson Pearce football team came the closest to achieving victory in the season opener but fell just short against Lake Dallas High School, 31-20. The Mustangs matched their opponents in almost every category but giving up too many turnovers turned out to be their undoing.

Richardson Pearce used a quarterback platoon with some degree of success. Rhett Svetgoff completed nine out of 16 passing attempts for 95 yards and one touchdown. His counterpart, Craig Lair, completed 10 out of 25 passes for 84 yards. The Mustangs' top rusher was Kedron Banks with 38 yards and a touchdown on 12 carries.

Their next game will be against Sachse High School at Eagle-Mustang Stadium on Friday, September 7 with kick-off at 7:30 p.m.
