'Tis the Season to Support the SPCA of Texas
#GivingTuesday is Tomorrow

 

(DALLAS, TX); November 29, 2021 – You’ve heard of Black Friday and Cyber Monday, but what about Giving Tuesday?! This holiday season, the SPCA of Texas has joined #GivingTuesday, a global day of giving that celebrates generosity worldwide! Occurring tomorrow on November 30, #GivingTuesday is held annually on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving, following Black Friday and Cyber Monday which kick-off the holiday giving season. This year, thanks to anonymous donors, all gifts up to $75,000 will be matched until midnight.

The SPCA of Texas invites the North Texas community to support the animals on #GivingTuesday through donations to help the organization rescue, heal and find homes for thousands of animals each year. It takes about $800 to care for each animal that comes through our doors. Whether it's $10 or $200, every dollar makes a difference in an animal’s life. During last year's #GivingTuesday, 1,179 gifts were made to the SPCA of Texas, helping the organization raise over $124,000. This year, the goal is $130,000.

Entering its ninth year, #GivingTuesday is fueled by the power of social media and collaboration. Since its inaugural year in 2012, #GivingTuesday has become a movement that provides a platform for people to encourage the donation of time, resources and talent. As a global movement, #GivingTuesday unites countries around the world by sharing our capacity to care for and empower one another. The SPCA of Texas is participating in #GivingTuesday this year to spread the word about the importance of adopting, spaying/neutering and vaccinating pets to serve the most vulnerable animals in our community and make North Texas and beyond safer and healthier for pets and people alike.

SPCA of Texas Opens Adoption Pavilion at NorthPark Center

 

(DALLAS, TX); November 26, 2021 – The SPCA of Texas is thrilled to present the 31st annual Home for the Holidays event at NorthPark Center in Dallas. This signature event brings shoppers and pet lovers together to raise awareness for homeless pets, and to help these wonderful animals find their forever, loving families.

WHAT: The Home for the Holidays Adoption Pavilion, located at NorthPark Center on Level One between Macy's and Dillard's, will open on Black Friday, November 26, and run through Thursday, December 23. The SPCA of Texas will feature adoptable pets Thursday through Sunday from noon to 6 p.m. each week with the hope that over 200 animals will find their forever homes this holiday season. SPCA of Texas merchandise will be available for purchase seven days a week. Since the SPCA of Texas' first year of Home for the Holidays in 1990, over 10,000 pets have been adopted. Children who came with their parents and adopted a pet, are now coming back as adults with their families and adopting again. This event is a holiday tradition for many families here in North Texas.

Adoptions are offered Thursday - Saturday each week from Noon to 6 p.m.
Merchandise is available seven days a week from Noon to 6 p.m.

HOW: Regular adoptions are $150 for puppies and kittens aged 0-6 months and $75 for adult dogs and cats aged 6 months or older. Fee includes spay/neuter surgery, age-appropriate vaccinations, a heartworm test for dogs six months and older and a FIV/FeLV test for cats 4 months and older, initial flea/tick preventative and heartworm preventative, a microchip, 30 days of PetHealth Insurance provided by PetHealth, a free 14-day wellness exam with VCA Animal Hospitals, one free week of on-demand pet training from the GoodPup training app, a rabies tag and a free leash.

(DALLAS, TX); November 17, 2021 – The SPCA of Texas is thrilled to present the 31st annual Home for the Holidays event at NorthPark Center from November 18 through December 23, 2021. This signature event brings shoppers and pet lovers together to raise awareness for homeless pets, and to help these wonderful animals find their forever, loving families.

The annual festivities kick off Thursday, November 18 with the 7th annual Bark + Build Luxury Dog House and Cat Condo Design/Build Competition and display portion of Home for the Holidays. Eighteen custom-made dog houses and cat condos will go on display at NorthPark Center on Level One between Dillard's and Macy's this Thursday, November 18. These one-of-a-kind pet houses were designed and built by members of the American Institute of Architects Dallas Chapter (AIA Dallas) and TEXO, The Construction Association.
 
All of the entries will be auctioned off online at spcaholidays.com. You can bid online for your favorite house or condo until 8 p.m. on December 5, 2021! All money raised will go towards the SPCA of Texas' important mission to provide every animal exceptional care and a loving home.

All entries for AIA Dallas and TEXO, The Construction Association's Bark + Build Doghouse Design/Build Competition will be judged on both design and construction quality by a jury panel. Awards include: Best in Show (1st place) and the Hot Dog Award (runner up). As well as the Teacup Pup Award, Furr-Niture Award, Big Dog Award and the Cat Condo Award.

Additionally, the final prize, Top Dog Award or "People's Choice," will be given to the dog house or cat condo that received the most bids! Awards will be announced on December 1, 2021 and the Top Dog award will be announced December 6, 2021.

SPCA of Texas’ Fur Ball 2021

On the evening of Saturday, October 2, ladies and gentleman gathered at the Hyatt Regency Dallas hotel for the SPCA of Texas’ grand Fur Ball gala. Guests arrived in their most fashionable attire, ready to celebrate for the animals at the SPCA of Texas. Beautiful white balloons illuminated three gleaming white cars from Sewell Automotive Companies welcomed guests to the hotel as they entered.

Guests were greeted with dazzling purple everywhere, including gorgeous purple florals and columns sporting bright, cheerful photos and heartfelt stories about animals the SPCA of Texas has recently helped. Fur Ball Chairs Hiren and Dhruva Patel waltzed around the room, greeting old friends and making new ones as they thanked guests for attending.

As guests poured in, they meandered through the room to view the stunning auction items put together by Auction Chairs, Amber and Anthony Sims, and the fabulous Auction Committee, including several travel packages, bedazzled dog beds, divine jewelry and more. Host Committee Chair, Rebecca Marabito, along with the Host Committee members, lit up the cocktail hour by thanking attendees for joining in the festive evening. Along the way, guests mingled as everyone enjoyed being together in person again and chatted while sipping on signature drinks, The Purple Pooch made with Tito’s Handmade Vodka and The Pink Rabbit made with Mijenta Tequila.

On the far end of the room, guests congregated to cuddle with adorable puppies and light up the photo booth, provided by Premiere Booth, with their friends before heading into the ballroom for the program. Guests were also able to have a custom Tito’s dog tag made for their best four-legged friend, and folks had a blast posing in front of the Fur Ball step and repeat. The ballroom glittered with purple drapes, sparkling lights and stunning floral centerpieces thanks to Dr. Delphinium.

During the program, guests nibbled on a salad of bibb lettuce, Lolla Rosa, Frisee, Belgian endives, citrus filet, feta cheese and sunflower seeds, drizzled with a cabernet vinaigrette and sipped on wine while listening to emcee Brian Curtis and auctioneer Grant Snyder kick things off. A video about the SPCA of Texas’ work during the COVID-19 pandemic showed guests the impact of the organization over the past year. Dinner continued with a duo of petite grilled sirloin steak and pesto roasted chicken breast, a cauliflower crusted potato cake and sautéed haricot verts.

President and CEO for the SPCA of Texas, Karen Froehlich, spoke about the importance of Fur Ball and giving to the SPCA of Texas and how funds help North Texas animals and beyond. Later, Courtney Burns, Interim Vice President of Animal Welfare for the SPCA of Texas, told the story of Bob the dog, who now happens to be Karen’s beloved pet, came to the SPCA of Texas from a hurricane evacuation and is now loved and cared for thanks to generous donors.

Rubi Solano, the Director of Community Outreach for the SPCA of Texas, and Mark Romick, with Duck Team 6, next chatted about the critical work the two organizations do in the community to keep pets in homes and unchain dogs.

Finally, guests learned the story of Princess Blueberry Hippo, also known as Blue, and the life-saving treatment she received while at the SPCA of Texas. Blue herself came up on stage to show off her amazing progress, and guests adored seeing the joyful dog and her new family.

In between the interviews, the dynamic duo, Brian Curtis and Grant Snyder, auctioned off seven stunning packages. The zippy pair’s infectious enthusiasm and playful banter prompted the crowd to open up their hearts and their pocket books to raise critical funds via the annual Fur Ball gala auction. As a finale, an anonymous donor graciously challenged everyone at the event to give during the Pony Up for Paws raise the paddle fundraising portion of the evening, and they matched their gifts two to one, up to $50,000. The audience rose to the challenge and met the match!

 

Fur Ball 2021 then brought the high-voltage fun with headline entertainment by DJ LC, and guests danced the night away. As they floated home on a cloud, guests enjoyed complimentary copies of Modern Luxury Magazine and dreamed of Fur Ball 2022, which is scheduled to take place in the Fall of next year.

SPCA of Texas' Fur Ball Gala is One Month Away
In-Person and Virtual Tickets Available Now

 

(DALLAS, TX); September 2, 2021 – The SPCA of Texas' Fur Ball gala is only one month away! Fur Ball 2021 will be held on Saturday, October 2 starting at 6:30 p.m. at the Hyatt Regency Dallas. The black-tie gala will include dinner, dancing, and live and silent auctions. The one-of-a-kind hybrid virtual and in-person experience will feature mission-focused stories, entertainment and gratitude, all with a focus of raising important funds for the SPCA of Texas in support of our critical work in our community through live and silent auctions packed with fabulous items, the always-exciting Pony Up for Paws and more.

Tickets are available today at www.FurBallDallas.com. There are in-person and virtual ticket options available to ensure supporters can celebrate however they are most comfortable. (DALLAS, TX); August 28, 2021 – Today, Saturday, August 28, the SPCA of Texas relocated 32 unowned cats from the Humane Society of South Mississippi in preparation for the imminent arrival of Hurricane Ida.

Saturday morning, the SPCA of Texas deployed a team to Gulfport, Mississippi to pick up the cats from the Humane Society of South Mississippi, pursuant to a Memorandum of Understanding between the organizations to provide disaster relief efforts. The SPCA of Texas relocated these cats to its Russell E. Dealey Animal Rescue Center in Dallas. This is in addition to 28 cats and kittens that were transported to the SPCA of Texas from Galveston County Animal Services on Friday, August 27.

"The SPCA of Texas is proud to partner with other animal welfare organizations and shelters to help animals impacted by natural disasters like Hurricane Ida" said Courtney Burns, Interim VP of Animal Welfare for the SPCA of Texas, "The animals transferred to us will be cared for and evaluated for adoption or placement on a case-by-case basis."

The animals that have been transferred to the SPCA of Texas will be evaluated by SPCA of Texas’ medical and behavior teams and will receive all the care they need. The SPCA of Texas hopes to place them up for adoption in the coming days and weeks. The SPCA of Texas encourages families interested in adding a pet to their home to consider adopting now. By adopting a pet from the SPCA of Texas, you will save that animals' life as well as open up space for another homeless pet in need. SPCA of Texas Receives Nearly 30 Homeless Cats and Kittens Displaced by Hurricane Ida Through ASPCA Evacuation Efforts
Homeless cats relocated from Galveston County Animal Services will soon be made available for adoption

 

(DALLAS, TX); August 27, 2021 – At the request of the ASPCA® (American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals®), the SPCA of Texas will receive nearly 30 homeless cats and kittens displaced by Hurricane Ida at approximately 4:30 p.m. today. The ASPCA collaborated with Galveston County Animal Services to transport the unowned cats out of harm’s way ahead of the storm making landfall. The cats will arrive at the SPCA of Texas this evening and will then be medically and behaviorally evaluated for adoption or placement on a case-by-case basis.
 
"We are proud to partner with ASPCA to welcome these cats and kittens into our care, where they will be safe from the incoming Hurricane Ida," said Courtney Burns, Interim Vice President of Animal Welfare for the SPCA of Texas, "Our organization will provide these animals with the care they need until we are able to find them happy homes in the coming days and weeks." 

“Evacuating animals in the path of disasters is a lifesaving aspect of emergency response efforts because it gives homeless animals a second chance while freeing up resources for potentially displaced pets in impacted communities,” said Susan Anderson, Director of Disaster Response for the ASPCA National Field Response Team. “We commend Galveston County Animal Services for recognizing the urgent need to move these cats out of harm’s way and are grateful to the SPCA of Texas for opening their doors to these animals in need.”
 
Hurricane Ida is expected to bring heavy rainfall and high winds throughout the next several days as it quickly approaches the Gulf Coast. The ASPCA disaster response team is in communications with local and state emergency response agencies and stands ready to assist displaced animals and pet owners upon request.
 
By relocating homeless animals from areas damaged by emergency situations such as this, not only are those homeless animals brought to safety, but much-needed space and resources are made available for displaced pets in impacted communities.
 
As we approach National Preparedness Month in September, the ASPCA is sharing lifesaving expert tips on keeping animals safe during a disaster and urging residents in the pathway of approaching hurricanes to include pets in their evacuation plans. Help the SPCA of Texas Clear the Shelters

 
WHAT: The SPCA of Texas is excited to announce that it will be participating in the NBC 5 Dallas-Fort Worth / KXAS and Telemundo 39 / KXTX Clear The Shelters™ month-long pet adoption campaign. The SPCA of Texas is offering $25 adoptions on all adult (6 months and older) animals through September 12 at its Jan Rees-Jones Animal Care Center in Dallas and its Ellis County Animal Care Center in Waxahachie. From September 13-19, adoption fees (excluding equine/livestock) will be waived at the Jan Rees-Jones Animal Care Center and the Ellis County Animal Care Center in hopes of finding even more pets loving homes. The Jan-Rees Jones Animal Care Center is open for adoptions every day from noon to 6:00 p.m. Animals are available by walk-in on a first-come, first-served basis. Appointments are also available for select animals. Adoptions at the Ellis County Animal Care Center will be available by appointment only. SPCA of Texas Offers Fur Ball Mystery Boxes
Purchase to Receive a Box with Past Fur Ball Auction Items

(DALLAS, TX); July 26, 2021 – The SPCA of Texas is celebrating Christmas in July by cleaning out the Fur Ball auction closet in order to make space for Fur Ball 2021 auction items. From July 26, 2021 through August 1, 2021, those who purchase a special Fur Ball Mystery Box will receive a very special Fur Ball “mystery box” with an amazing auction item or two, SPCA of Texas swag and more amazing items that need good homes. Some of the items may consist of jewelry, autographed items, dog beds, Fur Ball collector’s items and so much more.

To participate, please visit www.spca.org/mysterybox from July 26 to August 1 and choose your selected purchase amount. The mystery box will be twice the value of the purchase. Purchases must be made through the designated mystery box page, as general donations do not qualify for participation. Fur Ball Mystery Boxes cannot be shipped. Mystery Box pick-up will be at the SPCA of Texas' Jan Rees-Jones Animal Care Center Tuesdays and Thursdays during the month of August from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The Fur Ball Mystery Box promotion is happening for one week only, so those who wish to get a box should do so as soon as possible. Each Mystery Box purchase will support Fur Ball and the SPCA of Texas' mission, to rescue, rehabilitate and rehome animals throughout North Texas.

SPCA of Texas Offers Pet Photo Calendar Contest
Winners to be Featured in 2022 Calendar

 
(DALLAS, TX); June 22, 2021 – The SPCA of Texas has announced its third annual Pet Photo Calendar Contest, allowing pet owners to share their favorite pet photos in hopes of winning a coveted spot in the SPCA of Texas' 2022 calendar. 

To participate, people can register for the contest for $25 and submit their cutest pet photo. Then, registrants can ask friends, family and co-workers to vote for their beloved pet in the contest to help them win one of the top spots. 

The top 12 vote-getters will be featured as monthly images, and all entries are guaranteed to have their image included in the calendar or on the collage pages. Registrants can make an additional donation during the entry process with each dollar counting as one vote, a minimum of $5. Additionally, people can opt to feature their pet on a specific calendar day by reserving a placement for $15. Registrants can also order additional copies of the calendar for $23, including shipping. Reserving a calendar day or ordering extra copies of the calendar do not count as contest entries. All proceeds from contest entries will help the SPCA of Texas provide shelter and care for the homeless animals in North Texas.

Those who would like to submit their entry via mail or in person, please email calendar@spca.org for more information. Online voting closes on August 31, 2021, at 11:59:59 p.m. Mailed votes will need to be postmarked by August 20, 2021, to count towards the contest. 
 
Each entrant will receive a 2022 calendar by mail in November of 2021. Prizes are not transferable and may not be redeemed for cash. A photoshoot for the cover of the 2022 wall calendar will be auctioned off at the 2021 Fur Ball Patron Party.
