Recipients of the Champion Award include Rhonda Melton Atkins, Karen Clardy, John Byrd, and Mary Robles.

On May 22, the RISD Excellence in Education Foundation presented Champion awards to four outstanding RISD staff members at a celebration at the RISD Administrative Building Auditorium.

The Champion Award was designed to honor RISD faculty members who go above and beyond while carrying out their duties, either at a school, or in a support position in administration. The selection committee was chaired by Jeanne Hooker, RISD Excellence in Education Foundation Program Chair, and Jay Armstrong, Executive Director of Support Services for RISD.

The recipients of the first Champion Award included Mary Robles, Executive Assistant at RISD Academy; Karen Clardy, Executive Assistant at Lake Highlands High School; John Byrd, Building Supervisor at LV Berkner High School; and Rhonda Melton Atkins, who works in Child Nutrition at Carolyn Bukhair Elementary. Each recipient received a $500 check, an engraved award and the letters of recommendation written on their behalf.

The RISD Excellence in Education Foundation raises funds and provides support to teachers and students in the Richardson Independent School District. To learn more about the RISD Excellence in Education Foundation and the Champion Award, please visit RISDFoundation.org.
